Soil Health and Management

  1. Complete the Soils Core Competency Modules
  2. Complete the Water Quality Core Competency Modules
  3. Complete the Conservation Planning Core Competency Modules
  4. Become a Level 1 Conservation Planner

Familiarize yourself with the Conservation Practices for JAA below before beginning these trainings - Read the practice standards, know the practice purposes and Implementation Requirements worksheets for the common practices in your work area.

  2. Understand Soil Health Resource Concerns
  3. Understand Cropland Soil Health Assessments
  4. In Field Soil Health Assessment Training (Offered in person annually)
  5. Soil Health and Sustainability (Offered in person annually)
  6. Conservation Planning Course (Offered in person annually)
  7. Cover Crop Academy (Offered in person depending on demand)
  8. Basic Soils and Landscapes (Offered in person annually)

Conservation Practices for Job Approval Authority

Additional Opportunities

  • Join a soil health cohort when available (Offered annually)
  • Work on conservation practice planning
    • Work with a mentor to guide and review your work
  • Complete the JAA Application
  • Complete the JAA Reference Form with your mentor
  • Submit the JAA Packet to your ARC
  • Continue to refine and hone your technical skills until you receive JAA
  • Continue to gain experience by planning practices and continuing your learning
  • Mentor others - someone helped you, so pass it on!
  • Three year JAA review
